Haircare Maintenance

To maintain hair extensions, brush them gently 2-3 times daily, washing only 1-2 times a week using sulfate-free products. Always blow-dry completely to prevent matting, and braid the hair or wear a silk bonnet while sleeping.
Daily & Weekly Upkeep
  • Brushing: Use a soft-bristle or loop brush explicitly designed for extensions. Always hold the wefts or bonds with one hand to prevent pulling, start brushing from the ends, and work your way up to the roots.
  • Washing: Wash your hair no more than 1-2 times a week. Shampoo the scalp and roots gently, allowing the suds to cleanse the ends.
  • Conditioning & Oils: Keep hydrating oils and leave-in conditioners away from the attachment points (wefts, beads, or tape) to prevent them from slipping. Apply oil exclusively to mid-lengths and ends to maintain hydration.
Nighttime Care: Never go to bed with wet extensions, as this causes matting and can harbor mold. Secure your hair in a loose braid or ponytail before bed and sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase—or wear a silk bonnet—to reduce friction.
Washing & Drying Extensions
  • Pre-brush: Detangle thoroughly before entering the shower.
  • Product Selection: Invest in high-quality, sulfate-free, and paraben-free products. Look into a Clarifying Shampoo once or twice a month to clear product buildup, but keep it away from the roots.
  • Drying: Squeeze out excess water with a towel (never rub or twist the hair). Allow the hair to air-dry 80% to 90% before finishing with a blow-dryer on a low or medium heat setting to smooth the hair and completely dry the attachment points.
Styling & Swimming
  • Heat Styling: Always apply a Heat Protectant Spray before using hot tools. Keep styling tools at or below 350°F to prevent frying the hair.
  • Sun & Swimming: Certain chemical sunscreens can cause orange discoloration. Apply leave-in conditioner and tie hair into a tight braid before swimming to protect against salt and chlorine.
Professional Maintenance
  • Salon Visits: Depending on the extension type (tape-ins, beads, or wefts), plan for salon move-ups or re-tightening every 4 to 10 weeks to prevent matting and natural hair damage
